At Fitness Physio in Merewether, we help people across Newcastle with back pain, neck pain, sports injuries, gym injuries, work-related pain and ongoing problems that keep coming back.

Tommy Nguyen is an experienced physiotherapist with more than 20 years of clinical practice in Australia and overseas. A University of Sydney graduate, Tommy combines strong clinical expertise with a background in strength and conditioning, allowing him to deliver practical, performance-focused rehabilitation tailored to each patient’s goals.

Tommy has a special interest in shoulder rehabilitation, including complex rotator cuff injuries, post-surgical recovery, instability, and sport-related shoulder pain. He also has experience delivering the Cross Bracing Protocol for suitable patients with ACL injuries, supporting non-surgical ACL management where clinically appropriate.

Throughout his career, Tommy has worked closely with sports physicians and shoulder surgeons. He has also served as club physiotherapist for teams including Merewether Carlton, Souths Lions, and the Newcastle Northstars, and has managed injuries for elite-level surfers. This experience gives him a strong understanding of the demands of sport and high-performance rehabilitation.

Tommy is known for his thorough assessments and his focus on identifying the underlying cause of injury, not just treating symptoms. He stays up to date with current research and clinical techniques and is committed to developing the skills of the wider Fitness Physio team.

With a patient-centred approach, Tommy helps people take an active role in their recovery, aiming for a safe and confident return to sport, work, and everyday life. His own experience recovering from injury gives him valuable insight into the challenges patients face and supports his empathetic, results-driven approach.

Bio
Jed is a registered physiotherapist who graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2023. Having grown up and trained in Newcastle, he is passionate about supporting the local community and helping people return to the activities they enjoy.

During his studies, Jed completed a university placement with the Newcastle Jets, where he developed a strong interest in sports injury management and high-performance rehabilitation. He has also worked as a sports trainer for local football clubs, gaining hands-on experience in acute injury care and return-to-play planning.

Jed treats a wide range of conditions, with particular interest in running injuries, sporting injuries, and ACL rehabilitation. He also regularly helps patients manage common concerns such as shoulder pain and lower back pain, with a focus on practical strategies that improve day-to-day function.

His treatment approach combines hands-on manual therapy with targeted exercise prescription. Jed aims to relieve pain, address contributing factors, and help reduce the risk of recurrence. He is trained in trigger point dry needling and has completed additional professional development in the management of lower back, knee, and shoulder conditions.

Outside the clinic, Jed enjoys football, trail running, hiking, and camping. His personal involvement in sport and outdoor activities gives him a strong understanding of the physical demands placed on his patients and reinforces his commitment to helping them achieve their goals.

Po helps people of all activity levels recover from everyday aches, gym and sporting injuries, and prepare for or recover from surgery through personalised, evidence-based physiotherapy tailored to the individual to build confidence and long-term resilience.

Po is an experienced physiotherapist who has built her career across both private practice and the hospital setting. This diverse background allows her to confidently manage a wide range of conditions, from everyday aches and sporting injuries to rehabilitation before and after surgery.

Po has a particular interest in helping people recover from gym- and exercise-related injuries, with extensive experience managing shoulder, back, hip, knee, and ankle conditions. She is also a GLA:D® and ONERO® registered physiotherapist, who is well-versed with the latest evidence-based management of osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Her specialised training enables her to develop tailored exercise programs that help improve function, build strength, and enhance quality of life at every stage of life.

Po believes great physiotherapy is about more than simply relieving pain. Her goal is to help every patient leave treatment stronger, more confident, and equipped with the knowledge and skills to stay active and independent in the long term. Her approach combines hands-on therapy, personalised exercise, education, and practical self-management strategies to deliver the right treatment at the right time, rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

Outside the clinic, you’ll usually find Po powerlifting, strength training, or fishing off the rocks. She is also bilingual, speaking English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, allowing her to support patients from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.

Nathan Tuntevski

Physiotherapist

Nathan combines physiotherapy, exercise science, and strength and conditioning experience to help patients recover from injury, build strength, and return to the activities that matter most.

Bio
Nathan brings a strong combination of exercise science, strength and conditioning, and physiotherapy experience to Fitness Physio. With ten years of experience in the strength and conditioning industry, Nathan has worked with both athletes and the general population.

Nathan completed his bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science at the University of Newcastle in 2018 before going on to complete a Master of Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney in 2021. During his studies, he gained valuable experience through hospital-based work at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and sports physiotherapy settings in Sydney.

Since returning to Newcastle, Nathan has focused on private practice, where Fitness Physio’s evidence-based approach aligns closely with his own clinical philosophy. He combines his fitness background with physiotherapy training to deliver effective, individualised treatment plans for people at all stages of recovery.

Nathan is also an ONERO®-trained physiotherapist, providing exercise classes designed to support bone density and strength. While he treats a wide range of injuries and conditions, he has a particular interest in shoulder and back-related problems, helping patients improve mobility, strength, and confidence.

Having experienced injuries himself throughout an active life, Nathan understands the frustration that can come with pain and restricted movement. He brings empathy, clear communication, and a practical approach to helping patients return to the activities that matter most to them.
